DeLand to spend $400,000 on downtown tree, paver makeover

A portion of downtown DeLand along West Indiana Avenue is getting a makeover.The Drake Elm trees in the streetscape between Woodland Boulevard and Florida Avenue will be replaced by Cathedral Live Oak, Magnolia and Japanese Blueberry trees, city spokesman Chris Graham said Tuesday in a news release. Fired Volusia teacher sues School Board for racial discrimination

A fired teacher is suing the Volusia County School Board for racial discrimination, according to court documents filed in May.The suit alleges that Andre L. Grant was offered a position as a French teacher at Spruce Creek High School, but the offer of employment was rescinded and a less-qualified Caucasian candidate was hired.
